A Walk In Simi Valley

Hey, everyone, happy Friday! Remember a couple of weeks ago when I was tearing my hair out (figuratively speaking!) over my inability to come up with interesting (to me, anyway) new blog posts?

blogging is hard

And P.S. – thanks to blogger Penny Wilson (Penny Wilson Writes) for her great suggestions (even though I haven’t used ’em yet)!

Well, today, as I was strolling along the beautiful Arroyo Simi Greenway Bike Path (http://www.rsrpd.org/simi_valley/trails/arroyo_simi_bike_path.php) in equally beautiful Simi Valley, California, I had a great idea!

I decided to start doing regular posts about the different places I enjoy walking and/or hiking, along with photos I take along the way!

Anyway, I don’t know how long I can keep that up since as of now there’s really only a small number of places I visit regularly to walk. But hey, it’s a plan, and I love me a good plan, don’t you?

So first of all, what is the Arroyo Simi Bike Path?

Sign photo

Well, according to the entry at Alltrails.com (https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/simi-bike-trail) it’s an “11.3 mile out and back trail located near Simi Valley, California. The trail is good for all skill levels and primarily used for road biking. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.”

(or skateboard!)

Translation: most of the way, the mostly well-paved path runs on both sides of the Arroyo Simi, a flood channel which is actually full of water right now due to the recent rains. So you can see lots of interesting wildlife, like these giant geese who like to poop all over everything.

Seriously, watch your step if you get off the paved path!

And you may well want to get off the paved path, especially if you’re out with kids or dogs, because there are some nice little “pocket parks” along the way.

So if you can deal with the ubiquitous poop, it’s a really pleasant walk and lots of interesting things to see along the way. Like this kinda sad-looking kid’s playhouse:

I have no idea what the story is there, but I like to imagine that the kid who used to play in it grew up, got a terrific job, moved to the big city, and left the old playhouse behind, just in case things don’t work out.

There’s a lot of mushrooms around

And lots of gorgeous flowers, too!

Although I didn’t have my (more or less) trusty pedometer with me on today’s walk, I estimate the walk from one pedestrian bridge to the next, and back again, is about 2 miles, maybe 2 and a quarter. All in all, a nice place for your daily walk or jog or…oh yeah, I guess you could ride your bike on it too. I mean, it IS a bike path!

So there ya go, everything you ever wanted to know about the Arroyo Simi Greenway Bike Path – at least, it’s all I’m gonna tell you today! But if you want more details, here are a couple of good links to check out:

Hope you enjoyed today’s walk! See you on Monday for the weigh-in!

Post-Anniversary Chocolate Truffles Weigh-in!

Well, howdy there, friends old and new! As you regulars know, around here, Monday is Rhymin’ Weekly Weigh-In Day! So fasten your seat belts, ’cause here we goooo:

198.0

Yay, a little bit of a loss there! I wasn’t sure there’d be one at all. See, this past Saturday was our 11th wedding anniversary (thank you, thank you!), and since we’re both simple, tradition-minded souls, we tend to celebrate with FOOD, and lots of it. His mom took us out for a simple breakfast — and you Parks & Rec fans will squeal with delight when you see where we went:

Four ‘N 20 Sherman Oaks, aka “JJ’s Diner”!

And then I baked up a whole mess o’ Trader Joe’s Truffle Brownies. Mmm, good! I was actually planning to get the Reduced Guilt Brownie Mix, but they were out, darn it, so Full Guilt it was. And they’re really good … TOO good, if you know what I mean. What I mean is, I carefully cut them up into 16 brownies, so we’d know when we ate one that it was 200 calories, and then, of course, proceeded to eat about 800 calories worth. What can I say? They’re BROWNIES!! people!

So there you have it. It was a very chocolicious anniversary weekend, which is why I’m surprised I lost any weight at all. Still — worth it!!

Now, before I leave, let’s talk a little about my new gym, shall we? I’m planning to write about it in more detail, maybe later in the week. But right now, I thought you’d enjoy seeing a photo of it I took the other day:

And see the bright orange building in the lower left, just behind the railroad tracks? That’s the world-famous Munch Box in Chatsworth, best known for its chili dogs and for being visited by the late, great Huell Howser on more than one occasion!

A few chili cheese dogs should ensure that I spend a lot of time in the gym, so I’ll definitely write more about Anytime Fitness Chatsworth soon!

Meanwhile, enjoy your Monday — I’m outta here!

(unused WordPress Daily Prompt: vague)

Time for the Rhymin’ Weekly Weigh-in!, and Don’t Let The Numbers Get You Down!

“Aha!” I bet you’re thinking. “Based on that provocative title, I bet she’s got a weight GAIN to report this week!”

Well, let’s find out, shall we? Here we go:

218.6
Get the brownie mix!
scales

Down 0.4 pounds, baby! Although — let me tell you a li’l story.

This morning, I got up at about 5:45 a.m. to let the cats out. (Yes, we let our cats go out. They come back. They sleep for the rest of the day. Don’t hate me.) I held the door open for them for about five minutes, as I shivered in the subzero Arctic temperatures (46° F, brr!!), till they finally sauntered out.

On the way back to my warm warm bed, I stepped on the digital scales and weighed myself, for the first time.

212.5
Man alive!

Needless to say, I was stoked! Almost 7 pounds lost since last week? What a killer blog I was gonna have today! The late, great Huell Howser would arise from the sludge of his eternal resting place (Palm Springs, I believe), to proclaim my awesomeness!

huell

But guess what? After lying in bed for about an hour, dreaming of my frabjillious weight loss, I finally got up (the cats again — this time, they wanted FOOD, ferkryinoutlowd), and weighed myself again.

And guess what? I’d gained back 6 of those magical 7 pounds!! All in the space of a little more than an hour!

So — if you’re one of those people who lives and dies by the numbers on the scale, maybe you need to rethink your philosophy of life, the universe, and weight loss. Those numbers can drive you nuts, if you think too much about them. Numbers suck, really.

And I for one am thrilled that I’ve lost as much weight as I have already. If anyone who tells you “calories don’t count,” you have my permission to punish them, severely!

Have a super-awesome week, everyone, and a happy Thanksgiving to all!
