Couldn’t I just blame it on Trump, like everyone else?

Are we ready? Let’s play The Blame Game!!

blame game 1.jpg

Hrrmph…well, I debated whether to do a weigh-in today or wait till tomorrow, since last week’s was delayed till Tuesday.

But then I thought, y’know, that’s why I loved reading all the older weight loss blogs that inspired mine (like the great Shauna Reid’s Dietgirl). They posted the bad days as well as the good ones, so you, as the reader and potential co-dieter, felt like yeah, bad weight days happen to good people, but together, we can get through it!

So on that note (gulp), here goes:

Yikes!! That’s a pretty big gain! Well, if I really want to play the blame game, there are plenty of candidates besides our beloved President!

— There’s Helen, the nice lady at our church who died, necessitating a funeral Saturday morning, necessitating her family to come in from out of town and take us out to a big lunch afterwards, at their expense, with cheesecake for dessert.
blaming dead

— There’s Karen, the equally nice (but not dead) lady who also came in from out of town, stayed to visit her family, and invited us to their house for a backyard barbecue yesterday afternoon, featuring lots of big bowls of chips, hot dogs, burgers with cheese, and of course, cheesecake.

blame oprah

And last but not least, of course, there’s MOI!

trump you rang.jpg

Because to be completely honest, I haven’t been tracking my calories for quite a while and I’m pretty sure I haven’t been creating that all-important calorie deficit which, whether you’re doing the No S diet or any other way of arranging your food intake, is the one and only way the weight will go DOWN instead of up!

So the winner and champion in today’s blame game is — me!!

winning charlie.jpg

Oh well, the nice thing about weighing myself every day is I get plenty of early warning alarms when the weight is creeping upwards, and can take charge of the situation. I can waste time blaming others for putting delicious food in my path, or I can smile politely and say, “No thanks” — it’s up to ME!

blame others change self.jpg

And I do think I’ll go back to writing all my calories down this week, and see if I can get a better handle on where I’m overeating. The “No S” thing is nice, but  primarily on the “S” days, which isn’t really the point of the whole thing! So during the following week, I’ll go back to a way of eating that’s more natural for me, write down all the calories, and let the chips fall where they may.

no chips for you.jpg

OK, OK!! Meantime, have a great week!

Post-Holiday Weigh-In: Not Too Shabby, Chick! (heh – see what I did there?)

Good morning, everyone! Hope your Memorial Day was a good one (and if you’re in a country that doesn’t celebrate Memorial Day, well, “Monday,” then, ‘kay?).

monday pew

(Easy there, kitteh! It’s Tuesday, so you can relax now!)

Anyway, let’s do the weigh-in thing, shall we? Here we go:

Hey, not too shabby!

I was a little worried since yesterday we had our first backyard barbecue in a longggg time. Granted, we only had one guest, Mr. 50by60’s mom. It was her birthday as well as Memorial Day, and even though she recently broke her wrist, she managed to enjoy the festivities (and the French Vanilla ice cream) with a smile.

Plus my weight has been wildly fluctuating this past week — Saturday it was almost at 185! But that’s the reason for doing the daily weigh-ins: you can see the long-term trends in your weight, and not sweat those little ups and downs.

roller coaster

So all in all, a good weigh-in, and since I had a loss, off I go to a guilt-free breakfast!

Have a great week, everyone — see you next Monday!

It’s Memorial Day, so Delay the Weigh!

Good morning, everyone! Since today is Memorial Day in the States, I’m delaying my official weigh-in till tomorrow. As you’re oot and aboot having fun today, don’t forget to stop and remember those who made our freedom possible!

See you TOMORROW for a rare Tuesday Weigh-in!

Peppa? (knock knock knock) Peppa? (knock knock knock) Peppa? (knock knock knock)

I’m ba-a-ack! Had a wonderful time in Phoenix, connecting and/or reconnecting with relatives (big shout-outs to Laura and Rachel!), and of course, watching the “Big Bang Theory” finale!

The-guy-on

However, as Rachel and I walked into my parents’ living room to watch Leonard, Sheldon, Amy and the gang say their final goodbyes, we were a tad nonplussed to find that a young neighbor child, Miss Billie, had taken over the sofa and was very, very determined to watch ANOTHER show, something called “Peppa Pig.” So naturally, I had to come up with what is probably the ONLY “Big Bang Theory/Peppa Pig” mashup you’ll ever see on the Internetz or anywhere else. Enjoy!

Oh yeah, I was gonna do a weigh-in too. Here ya go:

Dang! Well, obviously I’m still adjusting to this “No S” thing. I may go back to calorie counting if the weight keeps going up. Or I could just change my official weigh-in day to Tuesday instead of Monday, to avoid the post-weekend snacking bump. Or maybe count the calories while still doing the No S?

complicated leonard

Yeah, that’s probably the best option! OK, I’ll just get back to my post-vacay routine and see how things go. See ya next week, everyone!

(*oh and btw, RIP to beloved Internet icon “Grumpy Cat!” Seven is too young for a cat to go, but your memes will live forever!)

On the weigh to vacay!

Hey everyone! As promised, here’s my quickie weigh-in before I hit the road for Parts Unknown*!

Oh well, not really that surprised to see a bit of a gain. Remember, I’m now doing the “No S Diet” (no snacks, seconds, or sweets, except on days that start with S**) which means I’m eating a little more on weekends. So there’s gonna be a little bit of an adjustment till my Monday weigh-ins get in sync!

Meanwhile, as I said, I’m headin’ out to spend some quality time with the extended family! Hope you have a great week — see you next Monday!

(*well, Phoenix, ‘kay? Yeah, it’s pretty well known. Just doin’ my part to keep your Monday dramatic!)

(**S days: Saturday, Sunday, and “special,” which IMHO will DEFINITELY include Thursday evening, aka the SERIES FINALE of the Big Bang Theory!!)

Better late than never! (Unusual Tuesday weigh-in)

Hey everyone, sorry for the one-day delay on the weigh! Had to sing at a liturgy yesterday morning — usually the weekday liturgies are on Tuesday but for some reason this week was different. And since I’m the only cantor who doesn’t have an actual job, It’s always down to me!

humble brag.jpg

Oh well, afterwards I went for a nice walk. I’ll share a few photos in a moment, but let’s get THIS out of the way first, ‘k?

Welp, up a pound, but that’s OK! I gave myself permission to gain a couple of pounds after Easter so guess I’m right on schedule! Next week should see things going back to normal (i.e., back to the ’70s).

Anyway, after liturgy yesterday I went over to the Sepulveda Basin and did a nice walk on the L.A. River Trail. This basically goes around the edges of the golf course there, so you get a good view of golfers on one side and the river on the other. I spotted this little guy up ahead, and he obligingly sat still for a photo.

As did this butterfly.

Not to mention Frasier Crane down there.

So all in all, it was a nice day. I’m paying for it today, with sore muscles and a blister on each foot — but it was worth it! So how was YOUR Monday?

Rhymin’ Weekly Weigh-In: Post-Bright Week Edition!

Well, howdy everyone, and welcome back! So glad to see y’all again! So didja have a nice Pascha and/or Passover? Me personally, I did Pascha, but finished it off with some leftover Manischewitz Concord Grape Wine, so as to be, y’know, ecumenical.

manischewitz.jpg

(And of course, shout-out to our Eastern Orthodox friends who are just now STARTING their Bright Week! (And btw, we know all that “Old Calendar” stuff is just a clever ruse to take advantage of all our post-Easter & Christmas sales. Whatevs!)

greek orthodox easter palm sunday.jpg

So anyway, after a nice Bright Week full of yummy treats like REAL CREAM and REAL SUGAR for my coffee, kielbasa up the wazoo (and no, I don’t have a photo!), and cheese cheese cheese, here’s the official weigh-in with a DOUBLE rhyme (to make up for lost time*)!

Wow, only 0.8 up since two weeks ago — that’s not too shabby! I’m fine with that. In fact, maybe I’ll just grab myself some more cheese…

Oh all RIGHT, Sistah! Just have some nice, 110-calorie Chobani yogurt, then, ‘k? Geez! Anyway, nice to be back! Hope y’all have a happy Monday!

Holy Week Without A Weigh-In, Batman!!

Good morning, everyone! Although technically, it’s “good evening,” since I’m actually writing this on Sunday evening, and just *scheduling* it for tomorrow morning. So whenever I say “today,” I mean “Monday,” which is really “tomorrow” for me “today.” So good morning (evening)!

time travel verbs

Anyway, just wanted to let you know there’s no weigh-in today tomorrow! Monday! because it’s the start of Holy Week. As I may or may not have mentioned, both Mr. 50by60 and I are cantors at our Byzantine Catholic church

babushka

and this is a busy busy busy week for us, starting this morning with a long service called “Bridegroom Matins,” after which there are MORE services every day, till we get to the weekend and the services are so long that they spill over into the next century, or so it seems.

bridegroom matins

Anyway, bottom line is, no weigh-in today (Monday!), and no posts besides this till after next week (aka “Bright Week”). Hope you have a blessed Pascha/Easter; or Passover, which also starts this Friday; or, if you’re not religious, a “nice week”!

Monday Weigh-In: The Gardening!

Good morning, everyone! Let’s get the weigh-in over with, shall we?

Whew, that’s a relief — a bit of a loss! My body still seems reluctant to settle for *either* the ’80s or the ’70s — teetering back and forth over the border for quite a while now!

teeter

Maybe I can keep it down with my newfound exercise regime — gardening! Yeah, I’ve learned how to operate our gas lawn mower, which with its balky pull-cord starter should provide a GREAT upper-body workout!

me mowing

Not to mention all the cardio from going back and forth, all over both the front AND back yards!

Also, I’ve been pulling a LOTTA weeds — and let me tell you folks with lush, green lawns a little secret: pulling weeds is ADDICTIVE so you definitely don’t want to get rid of them! There’s nothing quite like the feeling of getting a really good grip on that thick clump of burlock and pulling it JUST RIGHT till you feel that long, slender taproot loosening from the soil beneath … mmm!

sensual

Sorry, what was I thinkin’? Anyway, it’s fun AND it’s exercise! So go find some weeds to pull in YOUR neighborhood today! Your neighbors will be thrilled!

Have a great week, everyone!
